Janet has some hits and she’s very good in the movie Poetic Justice with Tupac, and her song from the movie is good.

Far as I can tell they just figured out how to make the shit sound better but I can see you've chosen to do this close-minded society has passed me by bit and that's your prerogative (reference to Bobby Brown not intended)
Yep, that's exactly what I said...

Well I'm accounting for previous sentiments you've expressed when making that accusation, for what it's worth

Digital vs tape...Anyone can make an album digitally...just keep going until it's right. Tape degrades...you only get so many tries. Talent and crap happens regardless of decade or genre...there's just more of it now, because you can make an album in your bedroom.

Good point and fair enough. I just figured production because I have Black Metal due to the production sounding like shit, but I like Blackened Genres like Black Trash or Blackened Doom

And if I may be completely ignorant for a moment, I also feel a lot of the vocal performances of these 80 synthpop hits are just medicore. But it may be the mix, too. Idk. I think nowadays there's just much more depth, sonically, to make the style sound better to me.
Interesting take! I feel pretty 50/50 vocals on them now n am not a huge fan of a lot modern pop singers. But also nostalgia n feel. What may feel like an homage feels like imitation to another. I do think stuff does sound generally better now but! Some of that old shit sounds better on record than compressed digital. #nerdin

Some of Janet Jackson’s albums are legendary. And no I’m not speaking from experience. I read about her cause I wasn’t familiar with her music either. After reading about it though I might start listening.

That is all completely valid

Speaking so broadly, obviously there are many outliers in both eras. On the matter of imitation vs. homage, I think I usually assume most artists that are doing retro-themed stuff are doing it with a certain level of wink and nudge. Take everyone's favorite The Weeknd for an easy example. The After Hours album was all synthpop style, and while I'm sure many people would say he's just ripping off old stuff and dismiss it because of that... the reality is that he's doing a bit, and it's not like he's hiding it. He's not at all trying to pass the style off as his own. Whether anyone enjoys it or not is obviously up to them, but in a case like that, I don't think much should be made about the whole imitation aspect of it.

To me Michael Jackson is the greatest artist of all time. Just the way his songs sound and his vocals are impeccable. Just the way he incorporates electric guitar into a pop song in Beat It is amazing and that’s just one example.

Very well written points. Its unfortunate I don't like said artist at all, but I respect the hell out of this deep dive
