As they should not be today.
For around 15 years, independent wrestlers were completely shut out from the WWE. Their fanbases grew and people saw them for being very good despite not being with the WWE, so they got credibility.

In that time the WWE's feed leagues produced Lesnar, Batista, Cena and Orton.

ROH and the indies produced Punk, Bryan and Rollins.

It's clear that WWE's feeded league was superior.

Because WWE booking is ass and its hard to care about one wrestler when you have to sit through 3 hours of horseshit.

Yeah they were the golden generation. They prompted WWE to fund their dev territory a lot more, but considering everyone after them virtually failed - it should be a sign that it was a failing policy. They've made more money off indie wrestlers than they have from The Dicks or the other 95% of OVW and DSW wrestlers that failed miserably.

Then you are an idiot.

They got behind Punk and he didn't draw.

They got behind Bryan and he didn't draw.

They got behind Rollins and he didn't draw.

The problem is that WWE changed their signing policy.

They should have signed more NCAA wrestlers and College athletes. Not hacks who do 400 flips in a bingo hall.

Wrong.

Punk was pushed when the show was 2 hours. The viewership went down because his insider promos turned people off. Smark booking didn't translate to the masses.

Bryan vs Cena and Lesnar vs Punk were booked well? Guess what, Summerslam 2013 bombed at the box office.

The contenders for NCAA wrestlers is really packed. Just about every athletic or physical competition (namely MMA promotions) have crowded a field that pro wrestling used to dominate. It's a lot cheaper to sign a ready made product from a bingo hall than it is to compete with MMA promotions for real fighters and to train them in pro wrestling.

It was a metaphor for WWE shows lacking any quality, and how it trickles down to turning the audience off despite the main event guy.

Nitro was a good show back in the day. Then they decided to add a third hour. Well, it turned to crap before WCW added a third hour, but that gave Vince Russo an hour to destroy the product more. What I'm saying is, when you have three hours, you tend to over book crap that makes no sense. There is too much filler when time should be used to build up wrestlers and give fans a reason to give a damn about a feud.

Also, would it seriously hurt RAW to start off with a hot match rather than the same boring Roman Reigns over comes all so you need to love him segments? Why not have a strong undercard match? Remember when WCW was good and we would get something like Dean Malenko vs either Eddie or Rey at the beginning? Or a Regal vs Ultimo Dragon match? The Saturday show, a young Stunning Steve Austin defending his TV Title? Or the earlier years of RAW when we got a young HBK vs Jim Powers or Razor Ramon vs Tito Santana? There are several good wrestlers on both wrestlers who would produce watchable 10-15 minute matches. After all it is a wrestling show, so why not open it up with a match to get the crowd hot and a reason for the TV viewer to stay tuned.

I will get shitted on but that is why I liked ECW. It was straight to the point and no talking and you had your high flying match, technical and hardcore. You had a bit of everything all in one. The only problem was Paul E was a scumbag and was in WWE pockets the whole time while bouncing checks. Again, you can't expect an audience to watch 3 hours of wrestling and on top of that storyline. No one here goes to the movie for 3+ hours.

There was a lot of talking, and a lot of tit flashing and a lot of weird ass storylines that were fucking dumb.
