My oh my what a show.

Better than just about any WWE show in the past year. Great showing, great matches, some stinkers but generally a good show.

Moxley debut was both a great showing and also the worst kept secret in wrestling. Wonder what the legal implications are with the no-compete clause, in effect.

Crazy show. I was expecting Punk or Ambrose to show, but even then it was crazy that he did. He looked amped up and the show looked great from a production standpoint. And man young bucks are honestly the best tag team in the world

Who would you honestly put above young bucks?? They have the best matches on any card, consistently
Hard to say, but even if they're one of the top, probably more indicative of how tag team wrestling has fallen off a lurch these past few years.

Lucha Bros best team in the world currently for me. Would be Revival if booked properly but 'ifs, buts and maybes' aren't in effect here.

As for the show in general, one of the best debut PPVs seen from a wrestling promotion. Not a single poor match for me, some matches where more was expected but at worst we saw solid wrestling that in many cases the WWE is missing.

It was refreshing having a major wrestling product in the west that isn't manufactered to be tacky and juvenile. More of the same in the future from AEW please!

Top of the mountain
It gets an "A" from me. For a first show from the company proper it wasn't only hard to pick fault with but was extremely enjoyable from the start of the buy-in all the way to Moxley on top of the chips at the end.

Random thoughts:

  • Production looked fantastic - better than WWE given the fewer camera cuts.
  • The Casino Battle Royale rules were convoluted but the match itself was great fun and introduced me personally to a lot of guys I'd never seen before.
  • MJF is going to be a fucking star
  • Superbad Kip Sabian vs Sammy Guevara was probably the perfect first singles match for the promotion: two young, new faces to the mass market putting on a great match.
  • So Cal uncensored are too TNA for this. I get that a promotion needs veterans and both Daniels and Kazarian are both awesome wrestlers but... meh, the Strong Hearts worked for me though.
  • Holey Shit Awesome Kong!
  • Worst match of the night was the Best Friends vs Angelico and Jack Evans. Evans and Angelico are spot monkeys. Their spots might be great but there's nothing in between.
  • Six Woman Joshi was a good way to break things up. Only recognised Aja Kong but the match was good and a great way to mark the international flavour of the promotion.
  • Cody vs Dustin seemed to get too violent too quickly. I felt like the use of blood was simply because they could rather than anything earned in the build up or the match itself. I didn't like how it came about and frankly for the amount of it it seemed like a botched job too. No problem with blood in wrestling, if done properly it adds immensely to a match, but here it just felt gratuitous, or at least the amount of it did.
  • Bucks vs Lucha Bros according to a good chunk of wrestling fandom either one or the other of these teams is the best on the planet - was there any doubt this one would be good?
  • Surprised Jericho won
  • Jon Moxley!
  • Wonder where they go with Omegas character arc then? Thought he'd be a lock for the first champ but it now looks like he'll be chasing the belt.
  • Speaking of which, that belt looks nice - anyone got a decent picture of it?
  • Alex Marvez is an awful commentator.

This. I think they're still finding their feet though. And they can drop the comedy shit with the librarians, that was by far the worst segment of the night.

good.

  • STRONGHEARTS should have won.
    Kong comin back was cool.
  • Chuckie and Trent vs Angelico and Evans was great.
  • Joshi match was great.
  • Dustin/Cody was great. Bonus points for blood, and bonus points for asscheeks.
  • Pentagon is honestly one of the best in the world. Him, PAC and Shingo would be my current top 3.
  • Penta/Fenix vs The Bucks was great. I love tag team wrestling. Can't wait for a proper revival of it.
  • Felt nothing going into the main event, felt nothing going out of it, HOLY FUCKING SHIT
  • IT'S JON MOXLEY
  • HOLY FUCK
  • HOLY
  • FUCK
  • that's cool as shit
  • holy fuck
  • cool
desperately needed a PAC match. this show suffered from his absence, imo. hope that bridge isn't burnt because PAC vs literally anyone in AEW is a dream match for me. would love to see him face CIMA, Pentagon, Omega or T-Hawk especially.

Main event was a slow, sloppy ,botch filled mess. Very tedious watch with both men going through the motions. Other then that the PPV was a good debut. Young Bucks match was the most entertaining for me and I am hit and miss when it comes to them. It was just a good old fashioned bonkers tag team match

I always wanted more promotions to go UFC structured. They should really enforce the backstage interviews to be gimmicked, would help a lot of their talent progress to other territories.

- Loved Havoc & OC in the battle royal
- The two tag matches were great
- Excalibur did great for being on such a big stage, gelled well with JR when he finally got into it
- Dustin vs Cody was easily Cody’s best match
-Kylie Rae is definitely gonna have a real underdog success story
- The joshi match was good stuff, would like to see more Shida
- Main event was a let down, idk how to feel about Jericho in this point in time. He looks like age is catching up to him, body wise. And his new toned down style isn’t something that I’d want to see in the ME, especially with the title.
- Mox’s debut made up for it, ended the show on a super high note. Worst thing about not having the weekly show yet is the wait for the follow up, talk about a case of blue balls.

Overall, definitely an A attempt for their debut show. Honestly expected to skim through the show but found myself not touching the remote once, every match outside of the ME was at the very least compelling enough to sit through. And that’s an almost impossible ask for a 4+hr show
