Fau Vake who was critically injured in an alleged assault in central Auckland has died.

Fau Vake, 25, was injured in Symonds St during an altercation which erupted about 3am last Sunday.

Police today confirmed new charges would be laid in the case, for which four men had already been arrested and charged.

"It is with inexplicable sadness almost seven days to the hour after his hospital admission, Fau's fight to find his way back to us ended," a statement from City Kickboxing said today.
