I think it may be more than that. IDK, though. Still, it'll be a couple years.

Re: MLB 2010-11 Offseason Thread

The Yankees lost their first round pick in what's said to be a loaded draft, and they lost it for a guy who will be nothing more than an overpaid setup guy for the next 2 years. Cashman was careful all winter with free agency, presumably to keep that pick, and then the owners go over his head to make a panic "see? we still like spending money!!!" move. LOL @ them.

I see, didn't know they lost a pick.

But really it's the Yankees building through the farm system is never going to be there priority, so if they want I guy or need to fill a need they just hit up free agents.

Rays signed Manny and Damon. That's really quite surprising.

Manny for a flat $2 million, and no incentives? What the fuck? How did this happen?

It's MAGIC. They're only on one-year contracts too, so if/when Manny fucks up, they're not tied up for fuckloads of money. But yeah, I'm wondering how it happened, too. I mean, wasn't he asking for over $10 million?

I mean, like, if he's going to take that, why not take it with a team more likely to contend? I don't understand it at all.

In other news, the Angels have hilariously agreed to take on Vernon Wells' contract and give up Mike Napoli and Juan Rivera. So, they're budget is just about busted, and they got none of the top 1,000 free agents this year. Hehe.

What contender would sign him, though? They all may have been under the impression he still wanted big money, too.

TB seems like a near perfect fit for Manny. They've lost so much they need to do something so they can at least put out a respectable season and not lose any momentum they've built up in that community. And he's a big name with at least some potential to give them serious bang for their buck.

Pretty amazing that the Jays got out of the Rios deal as well as the Wells deal in about 18 months. Now they need to pull off the trifecta and get out of the AL East.
