Dixie Carter just announced on Twitter that TNA Wrestling has a new television home in the United Kingdom after Bravo was dissolved. Below is her Tweet:

So happy to announce that ALL TNA programming in the UK will be on Challenge TV from February on Sky, Virgin and now Freeview too!

Challenge TV is a very low budget channel, mainly showing re-runs of old game shows and is a big step down from Bravo.

Well I don't care if Challenge is low budget. It don't really care if it's on Challenge. I think the main thing TNA have succeeded in here is the fact that TNA is on freeview. That's opened up to everyone who does not have Sky ect so they are getting to a market WWE aren't. Great move here by Dixie but even so Challenge was owned by the same people who owned Bravo lol.

So, now TNA's on an even more obscure channel now?

Not totally bad news since it broadens their market, but having it on a non-HD, obscure game show channel sort of sucks.

I'm sure Challenge has a HD channel but I'm not so sure. Anyway it will be interesting to see what they do regarding to the Freeview channel, whether they leach of whatever channel is currently being used by the company that had Virgin 1 and then Channel One on there or if they make a completely new channel.

Here is some follow up info from pwinsider

TNA sources telling you that their TV shows will now be available in more markets than WWE over here is absolutely true. While Challenge TV is the strangest of choices, it's part of the most basic subscription package not only on Sky, but other cable providers like Virgin Media and BT. And keeping in mind that the whole of Britain is being urged to 'go digital', nearly every home has or will have the opportunity to get Challenge TV very cheap.

On the other hand, Sky Sports is an exclusive package. Sky Sports is hands-down the best sports network in the UK and Sky are therefore very protective of it. Not only is there a higher monthly subscription fee on Sky but, because they want everyone to be part of their service, they charge it at even higher prices on rival cable services.

So while Challenge TV is a crazy choice (they only ever show re-runs of old game shows that have long been canceled), but it will get TNA more viewers.

So in the end this may be a better deal in the long run for TNA. They will most likely be getting less money from Challenge TV than they did from Bravo but they reach a wider audience. That gives them a greater chance of selling more PPV's, merchandise and selling out their shows in the UK.

Well done to TNA for finding another TV deal so quick and one that actually seems to be better for them.

Whilst it's a wider audience, you have to think, how many people are going to catch a TNA show which is wedged between reruns of Takeshi's Castle and Crystal Maze?

I think that the people who aren't trying to find TNA on freeview are unlikely to just stumble across it, since Challenge is pretty much dead-end programming and nobody would ever think to check that channel, yet alone take any TV show on there seriously. Whilst it'll serve a purpose for wrestling fans, I can't see it being the hotbed of potential new viewers that some may expect it to be.

So it is similar to WWE being on SyFy, bigger audience but an audience that isn't really interested in wrestling.

The ratings in the coming weeks from the UK will be interesting to see if there is a significant change.

Takeshi's Castle...

Keith, it's gotta be Takeshi's Castle damnit... Hell I'll watch Takeshi's Castle then if iMPACTs on afterwards, then I might actually bother watching it roflol. Now they need to mark themselves on TV and not give shitty reruns of last weeks show like they fucking did on Virgin 1, hellavalot of fail in my eyes and it could go either way; knowing TNA will bottle it.

Note to self; Why am I ranting in the TNA section again?
